Dubee Explains the Politics Behind Saying “Cuddie” in Vallejo
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Dubee aka Sugawolf breaks down the deeper street and neighborhood politics behind the word “cuddie” and its association with the Crestside of Vallejo.
According to Dubee, it isn't as simple as saying that somebody who isn't from the Crest can't use the word. The bigger issue is understanding what using certain slang can represent depending on where you are and who you're around.
Dubee explains that somebody might say “cuddie” simply because they grew up on the music or identify with the culture — but in another environment, people may interpret it as an actual association with the Crest.
He also explains that these associations haven't necessarily disappeared with the younger generation and may carry meanings that are different from how his generation experienced them.
A fascinating piece of Vallejo history, language and neighborhood culture directly from Dubee.
